Every business needs a strong and clean visual presence doesn’t it? We would agree. We’ve tweaked and altered so many designs over the last 10 years that you’d think we’d be great at it by now. Not so much. Of course we know what we like and can distinguish an idea that has potential, but creating a current (but timeless) and identifiable logo that’s tailored to fit our business requires some outside expertise.

After sitting down and evaluating just how much life our current logo had left in it – which we still love the concept of and are greatly appreciative of the artist who gave us EXACTLY what we asked for at the time – we realized that it’s not the easiest to read and process at first glance, not to mention from afar. In the spirit of Spring renewal, we decided it was time to evolve, to pop out of that logo like a hermit crab does its shell and to embark on the journey to find a real CONCH of a logo – a conch that demands the same attention as the one the stranded island boys in “The Lord of The Flies" looked to for guidance and help…

Like most logos we’ve used in the past, we decided to reach out to the professionals to let them do their job. In this case we chose a company that was mentioned on a Timothy Ferris podcast called 99designs.  There are many other platforms like this where designers submit ideas, but this is the source we went to. The journey to capture and identify our Kamloops Real Estate business lasted about a week, included 30+ designers, and consisted of 308 submissions; exhilarating to say the least. Seven days of waking up to a multitude of very cool designs tailored just for our business made selecting the logo we didn’t even know we wanted, a pleasantly surprising process.

We successfully completed the design campaign and are currently adding the final touches to the other branding items included in the package like email signatures, a website header, business cards, and envelop design. The final design that we’re ultimately moving forward with was a wildcard concept, different from everything we had seen thus far, and was submitted by a talented artist nearly halfway through the process.

We chose this design based on the simplicity of the negative space H and highlighted “door” coupled with the windows inside the B. We find it very refreshing as it gives the feel of a city block without the oh-so-popular house + roof design that real estate logos often default to. We are at an interesting time in our Kamloops real estate careers where we've been in the business long enough to reflect back and really see how much we've learned as a team, this is why we chose the slogan: Service Value Results. It speaks to our drive to help our clients make excellent decisions by discovering their priorities through communication so we can best guide them to towards their goals.

The most important principle that we were reminded of during this process is that a successful logo must have versatility. Formulating the flashiest or most luxuriously detailed design won’t often translate the same visual effect on all other forms of advertising, so its better to keep it simple.  Take a look at some the top 2015 logo redesigns of juggernaut’s like Google and Facebook: click here

Thank you to everyone who participated in the poll, it was a great help for us and we look forward to returning the favor when you need our assistance!  The winner of the GC will be announced shortly..
